2 Lives Season 12 Trailer

Coming up on season 12 of 2 Lives we’ll meet Susan Lieu who in searching for answers about her mother’s death produced and performed a one-woman show.

SUSAN LIEU: I feel more close to her than ever before. She feels so much more alive to me than ever before. Remember, she was forbidden. She was a silent secret. And now she's exalted and we can talk about her, yes, tragic story. Yes, full of shame. And also when we name that shame, we can be liberated. We are not relegated to the past. We're not stuck in the past. We can let it go. We can heal the past.

And we’ll talk to Sara Cunningham, who after years of struggling to accept her son was gay found a way through her fear with the help of other moms like her.

SARA CUNNINGHAM: I made this button after that pivotal moment and I went to the pride festival and I stood there and with anyone who made eye contact with me, I would say, could I offer you a free mom hug. And the first hug went to a beautiful girl who said it had been four years since she had a hug from her mother because she's a lesbian. And I pulled her in tight and we hugged each other. And I said, ‘I'm not letting go until you do.’ And from that experience, we started the nonprofit Free Mom Hugs.

And we’ll meet Alysse Delasandro. After years of being bullied and fat shamed she posted a photo of herself in a bikini that launched a movement that inspired others to accept themselves and their bodies.

ALYSSE DALESSANDRO: I remember being on the floor of my apartment in Atlanta and taking a selfie. She was like, ‘just post it.’ And I was like, ‘I can't just post it. I can't.’ And she was like, ‘what's the worst that could happen?’ And I guess what's the worst that could happen from posting one photo? And the truth is, my whole life changed.

That’s all coming up this season on 2 Lives. Listen for new episodes every other Tuesday.
